Waiting on Wednesday – Red Queen

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine and is all about the books we have *grabby hands* for!

I was so sure I would have to do a Waiting on Wednesday post for Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. Not because I’m not excited for it (it’s one of my top 10 books I’m anticipating this year), but because it releases on February 10th, three days before my birthday; and like waiting for your birthday, you’re excited, of course but you’re calm because you know your time will soon come.

I continue to amaze myself at the ways I don’t know my own self.

I can’t read it!! Or can I?

And I didn’t realize how badly until an excerpt of the book was released and I was struck with the decision of reading the excerpt right away but having to wait (probably in agonizing excitement and desperation) until the release OR not reading it just yet and devouring it once I got my tiny, child-sized hands on it. I didn’t realize how badly I need this book right now until I was there, excerpt open and waiting, my eyes strained from trying to read and not. read. all at once.

17878931The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.

To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.

Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.

But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

This description gives me just enough to live on: I know I want to read this book, but I’m not entirely sure where it’s going, so I’m totally unprepared for what’s going to happen. What is this power? What does it do? Is there a boy? I don’t know! I love it!

I’m unhealthy-excited for this book. My gut is whispering this one, and it won’t shut up.
