Right now I’m reading the sequel to Something Strange and Deadly, A Darkness Strange and Lovely!
Part of the reason I love this series is because of the historical element to it (which I adore!). Susan Dennard manages to create the perfect mixture of gothic undead and high-class society and propriety. Just take a look at the covers!
You have the classic full skirt which is no doubt covering layers of petticoat, but in dark colours that a young woman such as our protagonist typically wouldn’t wear at the time. Add the black lace gloves and sleeves and you have a look that is decidedly darkly feminine. And the book itself is just as, if not more alluring than these decadent covers.
Bravo, Dennard (and marketing team), you hit the nail on the head!
